A man who stabbed a member of staff in the back at Charing Cross station has been jailed. 

Jonathan Daniel, 21, was asked to move away from the station entrance by a member of staff as he was causing a disturbance and being aggressive to passengers. 

Daniel became increasingly aggressive then stabbed the staff member in the back as they turned away to radio for assistance. 

He then ran away with the bloody knife in his hand before being arrested in Leicester Square hours later. 

Investigating officer DC Gemma Lee said: “This was a horrific attack on someone who was just doing their job, helping to keep the railway network and those who use it safe. 

 “The victim suffered a broken rib and bleeding around the lung and remains traumatised by the events of that afternoon.” 

The incident took place on Friday October 20 last year.

On Tuesday (November 12) he was jailed for three and a half years. 

DC Lee said: “There is no excuse for carrying knives or any other weapons on the rail network and we continue to work tirelessly to remove them from the railway.”
