The sister of an Auckland man who died after falling on the tracks at Queenstown Road station has paid tribute to her sports loving and energetic brother.
It is believed Rochelle Jakeman’s brother, Vaughan Jakeman, was electrocuted after falling on the rails before being hit by a train in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Ms Jakeman explained the 26-year-old had moved to London in mid-2006 travelling with his pals from New Zealand.
He enjoyed living in London so much he planned to stay for the whole duration of his five year visa.
She said: “He was a full of life, had a crazy sense of humour, and an immense amount of pride in who he was a person and what he contributed to other peoples lives, at the same time maintaining the laidback 'Kiwi' way of life.”
Speaking from New Zealand she added her brother’s friends had been particularly supportive following his unexpected death.
“Obviously this has been a huge shock to our entire family, and all his friends. It is extremely hard not being in London with him, but he is extremely lucky to have such a great group of mates over there, who have all been phenomenal during this difficult time.”
