The wife of a police officer left with severe brain damage after being knocked off his motorbike has spoken of her anger after the Cobham man who caused the crash walked free from court.

Rickey Lee Parker, 25, was banned from driving for one year and fined £500 by Guildford magistrates for the crash, which left PC Stan Jones in a persistent vegetative state.

The 39yearold never regained consciousness and requires 24-hour care following the crash on the A246 between Guildford and Leatherhead on January 7 last year.

Parker was turning into a side lane in a left-hand drive converted French military van when he was in collision with PC Jones, who was on his way to work at Surrey Police headquarters.

Parker was found guilty of driving without due care and attention last Thursday following a three-day trial.

Speaking afterwards, PC Jones's wife, Sandra, said she and her sons Zak and Harri had lost a "loving, supportive and devoted" father and husband.

She added: "I know Mr Parker never went out to hurt anyone deliberately that morning but I am still angry at the sentence given to him.

"Disqualification and a fine will never be enough for effectively killing an innocent man It's so unjust."
