The Maple Children's Centre has benefited from the generosity of a Kingston businesswoman and a creative bunch of local youngsters.

Murilyn Hutchinson who runs children's arts and crafts workshops pitched a stall at the Ham Fair on Saturday and donated all the profits to the unit at Kingston Hospital, which is the Comet's 150 birthday charity.

Children made a variety of creations for Father's Day using stickers, transfers, paints and glitters on Murilyn's stall on Ham Common. She raised £50 for the centre for babies and children with special needs.

She said: "Doing something for the appeal has been really fun.

"A lot of the local kids have joined with getting the activities ready and supporting me on the day."

She urged other people in the community to support the charity which needs £10,000 to buy essential equipment to support the thousands of children in its care.

Murilyn said: "I hope this will encourage other local people to come forward and do something, even if it is something little.

"It all adds up in the end hopefully to the 10k needed."
