We'll find out on July 6 if London has been successful in its bid to host the world's greatest sportsfest, the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012, writes Ross Feeney of South London Business.
Leaders from the five candidate cities will be gathering in Singapore to hear the International Olympic Committee announce the host city and, if the pundits are to be believed, it's currently a two-horse race between London and Paris, with Madrid and New York trailing by a few lengths and Moscow bringing up the rear.
While the bookies favourite is Paris, it is far from over and there is still much we can do to show that we want the Games more than other candidate cities, it tends to be awarded to the city/country that wants it the most. One interesting way to register is the "40 artists 40 days" project, a collaboration between BT, Tate and the London 2012 Olympic Bid team.
The "40 artists 40 days" initiative is a unique collection of original video, music, text, performance and visual art from some of Britain's leading creative talent, which acts as a "cultural countdown calendar" to the announcement on July 6.
The project was launched by London-born artist Sam Taylor-Wood who photographed silver medallist boxer, Amir Khan, in the Turbine Hall of the Tate Modern.
The series also boasts contributions from photographer Mario Testino with a sensational picture of supermodel Kate Moss in the starting blocks in a pair of stilletoes alongside designer Paul Smith and architect Lord Rogers.
BT's Head of Sponsorship Paul Leonard added: "There is a natural synergy for us in applying our technical knowledge to the bid and to Tate Online, and bringing these two partners together in a ground-breaking way to engage and inspire a vast audience via creative use of the web."
Lord Coe, former Olympian and Chair of the London 2012 bid, said: "London has the skill, vibrancy and history to stage an Olympic Games and the world knows it."
