SIR
It is for others to respond to Nick Kilby's attack on our leadership of the Rose, but we'd like to point out a few of the mistakes that run through his letter (Time for theatre's management to step down, June 3).
1. "The management of the theatre as a business is laughable". The Arts Council reported that the Rose is "well-managed and governed with a stable, experienced team in place".
2. "The building is closed far too often". The building is working almost all of the time and it is difficult to find enough space for the wide range of theatre and community events that take place at the Rose.
3. "The management completely fails to understand how it should operate in the community." We won the Best Contribution to the Community award.
4. "The gallery has never been used" The gallery is used almost all the time as a working space. There have been many art exhibitions in other spaces at the Rose.
5. "The studio theatre is rarely promoted to the public". The studio belongs to the University and is used continually for post-graduate courses.
