A university student who beat cancer as a teenager and raised thousands of pounds for a charity close to his heart, said he wanted nothing more than to give something back to his community.
Keen fundraiser Tudor Morris, 20, of Orchard Rise, Kingston, backed Momentum, a Surrey and south-west London-based charity that aims to support children with cancer.
In 2010 Mr Morris raised £11,000 for the charity after completing a 1,000-mile cycle from Scotland to Cornwall in nine days.
However, he was not always this healthy – Mr Morris first had a cancer that affected his immune system diagnosed when he was just 13 years old – and believes Momentum was influential in keeping him positive.
He said: “When I was sick and had to stay in one room for weeks, Momentum would bring me DVDs and books. It helped me out a lot.
“I have always wanted to give something back and this money makes a great difference.”
In a bid to raise even more money for Momentum the sporty youngster is training to swim the English Channel from Dover to Calais next year.
He said: “I like a challenge. And I like a challenge even more for charity.”
Mr Morris was raised by his father after his mother died of lung cancer when he was just a young boy.
With the money raised during his charity cycle he opted for Momentum to use the funds to decorate a new oncology department as a treasure island that would appeal to young children.
The department also has a ship-shaped nurses’ desk, which has been named Susan Williams in memory of Mr Morris’s mother.
Nikki Howard from Momentum said: “Tudor has had a journey with cancer and now he is putting something back – he is an incredible chap and means a lot to us.
“His contribution has been enormous for a small charity like us. He is positive about everything – a brave young man. He is definitely a hero to Momentum.”
Mr Morris, who has been called a role model for all the children supported by the charity, still pops in to visit those at Momentum.
