I read the two letters in the 1 May edition of the Epsom Guardian (Plan Relief, N Mason, Banstead and Grave Issues, Diana Gorringe via email) and found both extremely distasteful.
The comments about Muslims I found extremely offensive and comments about other faiths (Diana Gorringe) simply patronising. I don’t see what the problem is with ground that is not consecrated – the number of people with no religion is the second largest group (after Christians) ahead of other religions. Where are they to be buried (should that be their choice) if graveyards are only consecrated? But that is a side issue.
It is the demonising of Islam and people who follow that religion that I find objectionable and very un-Christian.
