Re the letter by Unebalam in the Epsom Guardian (Justice Secretary Chris Grayling threatening foundation of justice system, March 13), stating the facts about Chris Grayling so called threatening the foundations of the justice system... well it clearly shows that this man does not know Chris Grayling's reputation for transparency and honestly.
Chris Grayling is the only MP that I can think of, in the last 30 to 40 years, that has had the courage of his convictions ie the prison service, and probation services, which have badly needed, a shake up.......... and we have known for years that prisons have become a glorified hotel.
I suggest we go back to the mail sewing bags days where prison was a deterrent, as opposed to free bed and board and 'holiday activities' - TV in cells, computers, gym etc.
The probation officer services have long been the butt of ridicule by offenders, and a total waste of money..
The majority of persons employed by this service are graduates and have no idea of how the lower strata live, and are not streetwise.
Maybe if Unebalam made his acquaintance with the broadsheets generally he would have a better understanding of the numerous public undertakings (rich and poor alike) that Chris Grayling performs each year.
To franchise this service out to tender is the best suggestion yet for decades.
