I live and work in Mickleham, within walking distance of Cherkley Court, and was invited to the recent PR event held there by Longshot.
Apparently I did not RSVP early enough, and therefore my name was not on ‘the list’.
At the gate I was told I was not entitled to attend, and anyway, the event was at capacity so there was no room for further guests.
I asked to be contacted so that my questions on the development could be answered, and additionally I sent an email asking the same.
To date, both requests have been ignored.
I understand I am not the only one that was turned away.
I personally view this as rather unprofessional and insulting.
The objective of the event was supposedly to "engage with neighbours in the local community".
But, in my view, some genuine local residents were excluded, leading me to conclude that this was a one-sided public relations exercise.
If it is too challenging for Longshot to run a simple reception with a clear target market, how will they handle the paying public when establishing a 6 star hospitality complex or will, in fact, their doors remain firmly closed to the local community?
