You're probably aware that Epsom & Ewell Council hosted an event in Rosebery Park around the Magna Carta theme.
I thought the entrance charge was a little high for a park event (£5 per adult) but, more to the point, there wasn't a concessionary rate for people who couldn't enjoy the whole experience. I'm referring to people with sensory impairments such as sight loss. With Swail House just 100 metres from the event (where about 48 people with sight loss live), it seems an incredible omission on the part of the organisers not to make a reasonable adjustment in the entrance fee.
The fact that people so affected, would not receive a similar experience of the whole event as those who aren't, ought to have triggered such an adjustment.
It's not about getting a 'freebee', but about acknowledging a deficit in the contract between what the event offers and the ability of paying visitors to fully enjoy and benefit from the event.
Clearly, no one has considered this, which beggars the question whether anyone in the council is really bothered. So much for 'equalities', which btw, is enshrined in law... even in Epsom.
