The report ("Hazardous" cycle path sparks fears, June 4) on the West Hill Cycle Path is strangely silent about the speed and volume of cars on West Hill, a considerable deterrent to cycling.
The path will particularly help less strong cyclists, coming from the town, struggling up the steep hill with speedy traffic close by.
The off-road path will allow them to cycle uphill in comfort away from the traffic.
The road infrastructure and width of West Hill is such that there is no ideal solution to providing a traffic free route for cyclists, but the path now being built seems the best that can be made.
