On Friday creative competition winner Asako Yanagita from University of the Creative Arts, Epsom, was presented with her prize by Ali Alvarez, Executive Creative Director of Brooklyn Brothers at the launch of the new No Women No Peace campaign.
Asako took part in a creative competition to generate materials for No Women No Peace, a new campaign on women and peacebuilding by a network of 14 human rights and development organisations.
During conflict women are a prime target and yet over the last 25 years only 1 in 40 peace signatories have been women.
The campaign highlights the issues faced by women across the world in conflict and calls for women’s participation in all aspects of peacebuilding.
Asako presented her work to Foreign Secretary William Hague MP at the parliamentary launch of the campaign on Monday.
Competition winner Asako said: "I hope my participation within this campaign will help create understanding of woman's rights and challenge the problem using visual communication - a worldwide language for a worldwide issue."
Judge Ali Alvarez who presented the prize said: "As vital as women are to the peace process, perhaps creativity is to making that happen.
"I was flattered when asked to help in any way towards this and the real gratitude goes to Asako for creating a piece of communication that was simple and strong, communicating the imbalance of it all without more women in the picture."
