17-year old Kurtis Atkins, from Epsom, won through five rounds of darts to reach the final of the Winmau World Boys’ Masters in Hull, East Yorkshire on Sunday 31st October.
Atkins, who qualified for the event earlier this year, beat opponents from Canada, England, Hungary and Wales to meet Hull lad Reece Robinson, 18 on stage.
In the final, played before the Ladies’ and Men’s games were broadcast live on television, Kurtis lost 4-1, hitting a 180 in the fourth leg. Despite coming second, Kurtis was very happy to have reached the final.
OTHER INFORMATION The Winmau World Masters is an international competition, this year held at Hull City Hall, Kingston-upon-Hull with Men’s, Women’s, Boys’ and Girls’ sections from the 29th to the 31st of October. It is run by the British Darts Organisation. The later stages of the senior competitions were broadcast live on BBC.
There were 72 qualifiers for the Boys event from across the world.
Kurtis is a student at Carshalton College where he is studying Electrics. He plays darts for Surrey county at both youth and senior level.
