After the driest Spring in 100 years, rainfall in June has been way above average according to Sutton and East Surrey Water.

The past month has seen 45 per cent more rain than would typically be expected in this area.

During March, April and May less than 20% of the long-term average was recorded.

The water company said that, whilst local water resources are sufficient for normal demand levels over the coming months, people should continue to use water with care as summer rainfall tends to evaporate quickly and only reach the dry upper soil.

Hot, dry summer conditions can lead to garden watering usage increase dramatically - garden sprinklers can use as much water in one hour as a family of four uses in one day.
