A group of girl guides brought festive cheer to tired office workers last week.
Banstead District Guides sang carols in Quadrant House, Sutton on Friday, December 9, to raise money to build a new guide hut.
Their existing headquarters in Brighton Road, Banstead, is a prefabricated building erected more than 40 years ago and was only intended to have a 20 year life.
The building, now in disrepair and ‘falling down’, has already had major problems with the flat roof leaking.
Having been turned down for lottery funding the group has set out to raise the £200,000 needed to build a new headquarters.
Gary Eversfield, who is on the fundraising committee, said: “It was fantastic and it was really nice of Quadrant House to let us do it.”
The guides raised £259.36 on the night but still have £90,000 left to raise to reach their target. Mr Eversfield added: “In the last couple of weeks David Walliams did an audience with David Walliams and it’s all going to the same cause which raised nearly £3,000.”
Walliams, whose mum has been a Brown Owl for over 20 years with the Girlguiding Banstead District, was brought up in Banstead and is best known for his roles in sitcom Little Britain with comedy partner Matt Lucas.
