Saturday 22nd September 2018 - Epsom & Ewell-based Old Glynonians ran out 15-7 winners over Old Paulines on a wet and cold day at Priest Hill on Saturday.
Glyn School’s old boys scampered away with a 12-0 lead at HT, thanks to a strong individual effort from No.8 Jonathan Gibson and then a trademark rolling maul from the OGs pack with hooker Josh Djadali touching down.
Facing the wind and driving rain in the second half, Glyn battled hard to keep territory and were rewarded with three points as Jonathan Yates converted a penalty from the 22.
St Paul’s Cathedral school’s alumni managed to breech a resilient Glyn defence to add interest to the scoreboard with 15 minutes to play, but continued tough tackling and organisation secured an opening day 15-7 victory.
OGs Vice Captain Tom Marriott, said: “We’ve worked hard over the summer, bought in a number of new faces and are delighted to have started the season with a win.
“This result sets a marker for the remainder of the campaign and I hope we can continue to improve and pose a threat to all teams in the league.”
"Beating a club like Old Paulines is a real scalp for the club, but after all of our hard work and recruitment, we're hoping there are more big wins like this to come."
Elsewhere, Old Glynonians are delighted to announce two new sponsorships with The Rookery in Clapham Common and J&B O’Brien Builders, while the club is delighted to have a new Captain for the season in the shape of ex Glyn boy Michael Taylor.
Taylor will Captain his first game away at Guilfordians on Saturday.
